Notes on the Atrocities

Random thought. Karl Rove was "overheard" saying of candidate Howard Dean " Heh, heh, heh. Yeah, that's the one we want." Sending, predictably, conservatives into paroxisms of delight.

But why would Rove say this? Sixteen months out and "Bush's Brain" is promoting Dean. The obvious conclusion is he thinks Dean's the one they can beat. Right, and Rove's all about obvious maneuvers.

How 'bout this: Rove's scared to death of Dean. He knows that an endorsement at this stage of the election--the pre-pre-pre-primary season--can only hurt Dean's support among moderates scared of losing to Bush. Better to line up a Lieberman candidacy while there's still time.

Anyone taking bets?
